If you are flying to Colorado, make your plane reservations into Denver International Airport (DIA) as soon as possible. August is a very busy travel month with students converging on all the colleges and universities in the state. Several transportation options are available from DIA directly to Boulder, including buses, taxis, airport shuttles, and hired cars. Travel time from DIA to Boulder is about one hour and fifteen minutes depending on weather conditions and traffic.
The Regional Transportation District (RTD) skyRide bus runs hourly between DIA and Boulder and costs $10 one way. The buses are regional style coaches with large luggage compartments below. For schedule information, call RTD at 303-299-6000 or visit their website at www.RTD-Denver.com.
If you are driving from DIA to Boulder, exit the airport and follow Peña Boulevard to I-70 West. Travel west on I-70 and transition onto I-270, which will take you to US 36 West. Follow the signs to Boulder and CU.
The newly constructed E-470 toll road offers a much less congested route to Boulder around Denver. Exit the airport on Peña Boulevard and follow the signs for E-470 North. E-470 becomes the NorthWest Parkway toll road as you cross over I-25, and ends at Highway US 36 (there are no tolls after this point). Proceed West on US 36 for approximately five more miles to Boulder and the CU campus. Tolls from DIA to the end of the expressway just before Boulder are collected at various toll plazas along the route. Be sure to have approximately $10.00 in cash or coins.
